How we work

Our approach

Seven working principles shape every engagement. They are simple to state and demanding to practise, which is exactly why they work.

1. Diagnose before prescribing

We never start with a solution. Every business is examined on its own evidence before anything is recommended. What worked elsewhere may be exactly wrong for you.

2. See the whole business

A profit problem may be a process problem; a process problem may be a people problem. We look across the business, because root causes rarely sit where the symptoms show up.

3. Separate symptoms from root causes

Busy firefighting treats symptoms and buys the same problem back next quarter. We keep asking why until we reach the cause that, once fixed, stays fixed.

4. Prioritise instead of fixing everything

Every SME has more problems than capacity. Trying to fix everything fixes nothing. We rank improvements by impact and practicality, and sequence them deliberately.

5. Build with the client, not for the client

Changes designed with your team are adopted; changes imposed on your team are quietly abandoned. We work alongside the people who will live with the result.

6. Support implementation

Analysis is the easy part. We stay through the messy middle, where new routines wobble, old habits pull back, and real problems need solving in real time.

7. Transfer capability, and make ourselves less necessary

The purpose of every engagement is a client team that thinks and manages better on its own. We deliberately transfer the thinking behind our work, so your business does not become permanently dependent on a consultant. A firm that needs to be kept forever has failed you.

Supporting frameworks

B.O.S.S. (Business Operating Success Systems)

B.O.S.S. is Authority Advisory's framework for how a well-run SME operates: how strategy turns into priorities, priorities into processes, processes into routines, and routines into consistent results.

In plain terms, it is a structured way of building a business that runs on systems rather than on the founder's constant attention. It is applied through the B.O.S.S. Review, our flagship whole-business assessment.

Supporting frameworks

The Business H.E.L.M. Framework

Business H.E.L.M. is our framework for steering the whole business from a clear vision at the centre. It connects the foundational functions of the business (sales, advertising, HR, accounting, operations and solutions) with six performance pillars: marketing, branding, finance, innovation, management and talent. Results are then measured where they matter, in revenue, margins, brand value, market positioning, productivity and employee satisfaction.

The name describes the standard we hold every business system to. It must be Holistic, Empathetic, Leverageable and Measurable.

Both frameworks support the work behind the scenes. With clients, we stay in plain business language. You will never need a glossary to work with us.
